I HAVE just read the latest report concerning the welfare of York City Football Club (Evening Press, Wednesday, March 1) and note the comments made by Richard Snowball.

I would like to point out, however, that it is becoming embarrassing when each time there is a cash crisis at the club the poor fans have to dig ever deep into their pockets.

To try to maintain any level of ownership at the club they are now asked to volunteer £6 per week until the end of the year. Is this not just "begging"?

My father has actively supported York City for over 50 years and I dread to think how much money this has cost him in entrance fees and programmes, taking myself and my sister when we were younger and more recently his grandchildren, not to mention donations.

Wouldn't it be great if the club could give fans like him something back instead of continuingly asking for more?

Here's a suggestion - what about if the PFA appeal to the players in the Premiership and if every one of them donated a week's salary to then be shared among the lower league clubs?

I wonder how far that would go to assisting in scenarios like York City's? I'm certain most of them don't warrant half the salaries they do get anyway.
