I read with interest your article about the continuing pay gap between men and women (Why are women still paid less? February 28).

I was particularly taken by what Coun Carol Runciman said about gender stereotypes being formed at an early age. Having worked for many years in both state and independent girls' schools, I can say with conviction that one of the many advantages of a single sex education for girls is that "no-go areas" just do not exist.

Girls in girls' schools are confident of their ability to take up any profession. They are creative, caring and excellent communicators. This makes them employable in leading roles from an early age. I would be very interested to research the pay differential between girls educated in single- sex schools and those whose confidence and creativity have been stifled in co-educational schools.
