WITH reference to Rita Harvey's letter entitled Sad Christmas (February 24), why don't we do as the Greeks do and leave the Christmas lights up all year round?

We were on holiday in Kefalonia and noticed what appeared to be Christmas lights along the street in June.

We asked a local if they were there to celebrate a festival of some kind. We were told that, in fact, they were Christmas lights and "why take them down when they only have to be put back up again next Christmas"?

The £60,000 needed to repeat last year's abysmal display could be spent on new lights.
