THE behaviour of these hooligans attacking buses in Strensall, York, is absolutely disgraceful (February 16).

It is to be hoped that all those responsible are quickly apprehended and given meaningful punishment for their behaviour.

Would it be too much to hope that their parents are also brought before the bench and "invited" to contribute towards the cost of the damage caused by their darling children?

One aspect of the report puzzles me however, and that is why, while under attack from a bunch of thugs throwing missiles, did the driver stop his vehicle and get out to inspect the damage, thus exposing himself to personal attack and possible incapacitation?

Call me nave, but I always thought a driver's prime responsibility was the safety of his passengers. I find it difficult to see how this driver was considering this aspect of his duties by stopping his bus.

I would have thought the safe thing to do was get away from the area as quickly as possible, call for assistance on the vehicle radio and then stop when a safe opportunity presented itself to determine the state of his passengers.
