YORK City fans will be able to share their fondest FA Cup memories with former goalkeeper Andy Leaning at the Social Club on Thursday night.

Leaning will be the York Minstermen's special guest at the supporters' group's latest monthly meeting to mark the 20th anniversary of City's epic FA Cup battle against Liverpool.

The Minstermen fought out a 1-1 draw at Bootham Crescent against the Merseyside giants and then forced extra-time at Anfield before bowing out of the competition 3-1.

Tony Canham scored for City in that match and he will join Leaning at the Minstermen meeting work commitments permitting.

The two performances represented a remarkable achievement for Denis Smith's Third Division side against a Liverpool team, who had reached the final of the European Cup just nine months earlier and went on to clinch the double during player-boss Kenny Dalglish's first season in charge.

Doors open at 7pm. The meeting starts at 8pm.

Another date for City fans' diary is Sunday, July 16 - the weekend after the World Cup final - when the club plan to hold an Open Day and Community Festival.
