A MAN was being treated for serious head injuries today following a disturbance in York.

The 33-year-old was taken to York Hospital after an incident at the junction of Bramham Avenue and Bramham Road in the Chapelfields area at 10.30pm yesterday.

A York Police spokesman said the man had suffered a serious assault, adding: "He has received treatment and is currently in hospital being monitored."

Inspector Steve Burns, of York Police, said: "At 5.50pm earlier that same evening, a disturbance was reported in Walton Place, also in Chapelfields, and the police believe both of these incidents are linked. We are very keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the disturbance.

One elderly resident said he had heard that "a lad" had been lying in the gutter at the junction with a crowd standing around him.
