Redhouse Lagoon fishery will remain a York and District Amalgamation of Anglers' preserve until the end of year.
And the committee have decided, due to popular demand, to try to re-negotiate the lease into 2007, which should hopefully ensure that the fine
bream, tench and roach fishing on offer remains available to the masses for the foreseeable future.
A more recent acquisition, the Sellar's stretch of the Ouse at Poppleton, is in splendid form and anglers will now be able to take advantage of additional access which has been negotiated at the Poppleton end of the fishery.
Anglers can now park opposite the church and reach the fishery across the field to the railway bridge. The fishing from the bridge upstream to the village boundary is now also available for the use of York members.
Congratulations to the club secretaries who heeded the pleas in this column, and elsewhere, to return their match cards to the Environment Agency.
This year a total of 87 per cent were received back by the Agency, helping them
assess fish stocks and population fluctuations. Such was the response that the bonus payment to junior angling sections in the York area will be paid once again this year.
The Cattery at Strensall is not a fishery that features regularly in this column but Huntington WMC enjoyed a brilliant contest there last Sunday despite constant rain and a howling wind.
Kevin Cashmore took
the honours with a fine bag of 60lb 1oz. His winning net included eight carp, to double figures, plus roach, skimmers and perch.
Alan Littlechild
wasn't far adrift with his catch of 52lb 8oz. Tony Clough also got among the big boys for his 49lb 8oz.
An angler who was fishing for pike at Sand Hutton on Sunday left a blue Nike
bag on the bank which contained many items of tackle. When he returned to
the fishery the bag had disappeared. If anyone found the bag they are asked
to contact Dave Woods at York Tackle on 411210.
