Heworth 'A' recorded their third 7-0 success in the York Conservative Clubs' Carlsberg UK Snooker League against Acomb 'B' to increase their lead to 17 points.

The winning team was Jason Milner, Kevin Gall, Mark Winskill (31 break), Neil Wood (71 break), Brian Shipley (30 break), Steve Burdett and Richie Burdett.

Fulford 'A' held on to second spot despite losing 4-3 to Bootham 'B'. Glen Mountain and Wayne Puleston put Fulford 2-0 ahead but Ian Robinson, Tim Fillingham and George Long made it 3-2 for Bootham.

Simon England levelled the match but Lionel Barnes (32 bk) won the match for Bootham.

Third-placed Heworth 'B' also surprisingly went down 4-3 at Acomb 'A', who had only won two matches previously.

This match exactly followed the Fulford 'A' v Bootham 'B' contest, with wins by Tony Tennyson and Brian Birch for Heworth. Then Steve Thompson, Gary Robinson and Adrian Barraclough won for Acomb. Huw Faircliffe levelled the match but Keith took the last frame to give Acomb 'A' a 4-3 victory.

Heworth 'B' are five points behind Fulford 'A', but lead by five points in the John Smith's 'B' team competition.

An under-strength Bootham 'A' went 5-0 up against Fulford 'B' before running out as 5-2 winners.

Mark Darley, Ken Taylor, Nick Parker, Colin Robinson and Barry Rankin won for Bootham.

Arther Pegden had a decisive sixth frame success and a walk-over by Nigel Smith gained Fulford's second point.

Heworth streak folds

HEWORTH'S unbeaten run in the York Conservative Clubs' Slater Cup Snooker League was ended by their nearest challengers Acomb, who won 4-3.

The aggregate lead changed three times as Acomb won four of the six frames and George Rawling and Steve Thompson won by 42 points. However, P and N Hodgson and M and P Jefferson did enough to ensure that Heworth gained the aggregate point, although Acomb won the match 4-3.

Heworth hold on to the number one spot but the lead is reduced to five points.

Bootham ended their three-match losing sequence with a 5-2 success against bottom-placed Fulford, who have yet to win a match.

Fulford went 2-0 in front but Bootham took the last frames and the aggregate point for a 5-2 win.

Stamp class hits Fulford

FULFORD held on to the number one spot in the York Conservative Clubs' Faber Shield Billiards League despite going down 4-3 to Bootham 'B'.

Wayne Puleston looked to be on the way to recording the highest break of the season as he won the first game for Fulford, but broke down on 51.

Jeff Brown made it 2-0 but Alf Appleby and George Long levelled the match at 2-2.

Tim Fillingham (23,25 breaks) moved Bootham ahead with a 72-point victory, which also overturned a 48 deficit to a 24 benefit in the aggregate scores.

Richard Stroughair took the last game for Fulford but Ray Stamp had done enough for Bootham to gain the aggregate by just seven points and win the match 4-3.

Acomb kept up the pressure on Fulford with a 5-2 win over Bootham 'A'.

The teams shared the first four games through Bob Ventress and Peter Lawson (26 break) for Acomb and Colin Robinson and Barry Rankin for Bootham.

Ian Gillies and Ken Bowser made it 4-2 for Acomb and a comfortable aggregate score lead made it 5-2.
