THE clash of the two North Yorkshire titans ended with them locked head-to-head after 120 minutes in the Northern Counties East League Cup quarter-final last night.

Selby Town and Pickering Town - both aiming for top six finishes in the NCEL premier division - drew 1-1 after extra time and now face a replay on February 21.

The rivals found chances at a premium as the minutes of regulation time ticked round at Flaxley Road.

Selby's Tom Matthews had the only noteworthy effort in the first half, his shot flying over the bar.

Young Robins' striker Steve Rollinson flashed a header just wide of the Pickering goal on 65 minutes and then Pikes star man Rob Eeles piled on the pressure with a header, then a shot from a corner, in the last five minutes, but neither drew blood.

Ex-Pike Tom Reid inevitably broke the deadlock in the last minute of the first extra period when he ripped a shot into the top corner from 25 yards.

But Julian Wilkes responded in kind with a free-kick 12 minutes later for Vase-hunters Pickering to book a replay just moments after Matthews thundered a long-range effort against the crossbar.
