RICHARD Best, of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, used some old letters of Mark Warters to endorse the case in favour of 540 new homes at Derwenthorpe (February 7).
All this seems to show is the sheer desperation of an organisation trying to prop up something that clearly has a lot of opposition.
Accepting any of Mark Warters' letters as an endorsement of this scheme would be like getting Coun Steve Galloway to join the Save Our Barbican pressure group, or, even more ridiculous, getting the city council to freeze this year's council tax.
It is very easy for Mr Best to promote over-development on the doorsteps of others when you consider where he lives. A superb property located on the Grimston Park estate near Tadcaster.
Open countryside to all elevations and a nice tree-lined roadway as an approach. No access for heavy vehicles and no chance of noisy disruption for several years with works traffic.
Oh what a different quality of life than the people around Derwenthorpe can expect if the site is developed.
