RED and black were the colours of choice, as the city's great and good partied the night away at a spectacular fundraising bash.
Some 400 guests danced until the small hours at this year's Lord Mayor's "Black and Red" Valentine's Ball, held at York Racecourse on Saturday night.
The Lord Mayor of York, Coun Janet Greenwood, wore an elegant long black evening grown with red designs for the occasion, while male guests wore crimson ties.
Guests enjoyed a four-course dinner, disco and casino, with music provided by band Smart Move. There was also a Tree Of Life with prizes for invitees, along with a raffle and chocolate fountain.
The event was held to raise cash for the Lord Mayor's charities, Macmillan Cancer and the St Leonard's Hospice.
