A NEW record was set in the York Knavesmire Racing Darts League division one when the match between Clifton 'A' and Huntington WMC produced an amazing 70 ton-plus scores.

Martyn Turner set the pace with six 100-plus scores for 18 and 21. Mark Hartley added an 18-darter with four century scores. Nick Harteveld (20 and 21) hit eight ton-plus scores matched by Steve Wade (20 and 21) and by John Smith, who won the match for Clifton with a 17-darter.

With players from both teams peppering the treble 20, Martin Waddington notched a maximum in a 22-dart 701 leg with Turner. Huntington were not to be left out as Pip Hair (20) weighed in with seven and Phil Good (19 and 180) with five. Mark Curry also did well with four big scores.

Mark White took their only singles, then partnered Hair to take the visitors' second point.

Steve Johnson was Yearsley's only point-taker at leaders Mitre, who had Kev O'Hara out with stunning darts of 13 and 17, while John Quantock added legs of 18 and 19. Dave O'Hara added 21 and 22 and Ali Wray gamed on 116. Yearsley had a maximum from Daz Johnson.

Stu Limbert hit a maximum for 18 as Greyhound defeated Pack 7-2. Dave Pilmoor closed in 19 and Bill Platt was out in 20. Greg Robinson gamed in 20 for Pack.

In division two, a superb 116 finish for 15 from Phil Paylor inspired Reindeer to a formidable 8-2 win at Burton.

Paul Cooper marched into the final stages of the Clifton Hotel Competition with a 3-2 win over Martyn Turner.

Turner stormed to a 2-0 lead with a 116 finish for 15 and a 97 finish for 18. In the third leg, Turner narrowly missed bull for a 114 checkout, allowing Cooper to sneak in and take the leg in 16. Another 16-darter levelled it for Cooper, and in the deciding leg he hit 140 and 180 to successfully game in a third 16-darter and qualify for the last 16 of the tournament.

Nick Harteveld eased into the next round with a 20-darter to run out a 3-1 winner against Clifton team-mate Steve Wade (21). In earlier matches, Harteveld had 19 and 21 against Les Lowe, while Wade defeated his Thursday night Clifton skipper, Martin Waddington, to make the board final.

Mark Hartley took the opener against Paul Brandon, who levelled with a two-dart 84 finish. Hartley took the board final with 19 and 20 darts after wins against Tony Raymond (15) and Claire Grimley.

The last qualifier from the second round was Kev O'Hara. He comfortably defeated Phil Good 3-0 with legs of 15, 21 and 21.
