Bootham Conservative Club 'A' are making a late bid to retain their York and District Table Tennis League division one title.

They posted a 7-3 win over second-placed Holgate WMC 'A', led by Graham Cook winning three. He was well supported by Jon Wooldridge, who won two.

Three wins by Mick Wilcockson helped Sessions 'A' to a 5-5 draw with York RI 'A'. Nigel Thorn won two for Sessions and Richard Crowther 2 for RI.

Coneysthorpe 'B' went top of division three after a big 10-0 win over BT 'B', while Bootham 'C' remain in close attendance after a 6-4 win over BT 'B'. Steve Milner, Ray Mitchell and Bob Plant won two each for Bootham.

Shepherds 'A' won both their division four matches with big scores. Mike Surtees was unbeaten, winning three against both Norwich Union 'A', along with Shahzad Umar, and all three against Shepherds 'B' with Gary Neads.

Hosts Poppleton 'C' shared a 5-5 draw with Holgate WMC 'C'.

Jon Soanes and Robert Farmery each won two for Poppleton, with John Temple and Vic Reed taking two each for Holgate.

Groves WMC 'D' continue to lead division four after a 6-4 win over Shepherds 'C', Mick Belton and Keith Hood each won three for Groves.

Holgate WMC 'D' carded a fine 9-1 win over Nestl Rowntree 'B'.
