SKIPPER Dan Potter can't wait to get the season started.

The former Widnes and Leigh centre, who was named team captain in midweek, reckons the new-look Knights have not hit their peak in pre-season but says kicking off against Hull KR will be an excellent yardstick to where they are at.

And he hasn't ruled out a shock either.

"It will be the first time we've played our strongest team and with a big crowd behind us it should be good," he said.

"It will be a good benchmark for us, starting against one of the top teams.

"I've seen what standards are needed to succeed at (National League One) level. At this moment we're a bit behind where we need to be, but over the next six or seven weeks we will find our standards.

"Hull KR, Widnes, Leigh and Whitehaven are probably the top four and if anybody is going to break into that it might be Halifax.

"But I think we've got the squad that is capable of turning the big sides over if we get it right on the day. We've got to go out and prove that on the pitch."
