RICHARD Owens, of North Yorkshire County Council, announced "Rural lifeline bus services are facing cutbacks" (January 4).

Then it was reported that North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC) has already thrown its weight behind the plan for the new park-and-ride site on the A64, formerly the Hazelbush Caf.

Mr Owens is supportive of this concept, which strengthens the idea of seeking new and innovative ways of attracting more users to public transport.

We don't need another park-and-ride site as First York already provides this. Those who travel already by Coastliners to either the coast or to Leeds will not benefit from this, nor will it provide new users to it.

People who own cars much prefer to use their own transport. The road is too dangerous to site a bus station there and with traffic light controls it will cause longer delays, especially in the holiday season.

NYCC needs to keep the money in bus services around the villages where elderly people, teenagers and people like myself, who only have one car per household, rely on the service bus to get us out.

For example, how will I travel to the site to go to York if I don't have transport to get there?

This park-and-ride site is an absolute waste of money, paid and funded by us, the taxpayer, no doubt.
