IT was interesting to read that residents have been consulted about incineration or mechanical biological treatment options for waste disposal (January 12).

The joint public consultation by City of York Council and North Yorkshire County Council on the waste strategy that asks residents views on these options has gone completely wrong.

Coun Waller heard at a meeting before Christmas that many households in York had not received a copy of the consultation at all. They will, therefore, be unable to make their views heard by the council.

This Liberal Democrat administration goes from bad to worse when it comes to consultation.

If people have not had a leaflet, I urge them to contact the council and make sure that they are sent a copy as soon as possible and I call on Coun Waller to keep the consultation period open so that people have extra time to return their forms.

Coun Ruth Potter,

Labour spokesperon for environment and sustainability,

City of York Council,

Chaucer Street,

York.
