Selby Town are hoping their centre-back crisis will have eased in time for tomorrow's big Northern Counties East League premier division game at second-placed Liversedge.

High-flying Liversedge will offer a serious challenge to the Robins, who are currently down in ninth.

All five centre-halves at the club were ruled out for last Saturday's last-minute defeat at Arnold Town after a bout of 'flu swept through the ranks.

But assistant manager Gary Cygan has his fingers crossed that at least three will be fit to face many people's favourites for the premier division crown.

He said: "We had to move young Kris Littler, who has been covering at left-back, into the middle and we got Alan Jackson, who used to play for us, to come back for the game. It was a bit of a nightmare.

"Hopefully, though, Andrew Cox, Andrew Dawson and Nigel Croad will all be back this weekend if they've shaken it off."

One man who won't be there though is Chris Kamara, who has gone down with a knee injury and could be out for a number of weeks.

The midfielder is undergoing physio and it is not yet known how long he will be sidelined for.

Harrogate Railway have the pick of the NCEL premier division games at home to top-of-the-table Buxton. Third-placed Pickering Town are at Sutton Town.

Key Tadcaster Albion defensive lynchpin Pete Vasey is a big doubt for tomorrow's NCEL division one game against improving Parkgate after picking up a back problem.

The centre-half was in pain on Tuesday night after a muscle in his lower back went into spasm and the problem could keep him out of action for a while.

Waiting in the wings are Danny Pitts, Matty Howgate and midfielder Mark Brady, all of whom missed Tuesday's win and could be in line for a slice of the action against Parkgate if manager Jim Collis shines his tactical torch in their direction.

He said: "It won't be easy against Parkgate. It will be a hard game because they are a strong side and they are an improved side.

"We beat them in the league then they beat us in the Vase the next week, and they have had some good results lately, like beating Lincoln Moorlands 4-2, who beat Buxton from the top of the premier division in the League Cup."

Two new Goole signings could be in line for a start when the UniBond League division one club go to relegation-battling Ossett Albion.

Player-manager Nigel Danby is hoping Dean Foley, drafted in from Frickley Athletic, will be fit to play, with versatile defender or midfielder James McDaid from Farsley Celtic also raring to go.

Said Danby: "I was pleased to get them because I've been after them for some time."

Jamie Jackson completes the last of his four-match suspension by missing a game that could have a degree of grit added in.

Albion are just three points behind Goole, entrenched in a bid for UniBond League survival, and have in their ranks both Gary Shaw and Ian McLean - two ex-Goole players who could be out for a spot of old-club one-upmanship.

In Nationwide North, Harrogate Town can create a three-point gap between themselves and fifth-placed Hucknall Town with a win, knowing they still have three games in hand to play with.
