UNBEATEN YORK 'A' marched on in the Yorkshire Over-55s Indoor Bowls League first division after beating North Cave 102-63.

They picked up a handsome 17 points in the process after dominating home and away.

Frank Turner had a tough start at North Cave, where he trailed 10-2 after six ends. But he got back into the game and only lost four more ends to win 22-15. Geoff Walker picked up a four on his last end to draw 21-21.

Peter Littlewood and Fred Clayden made the most of having a seven-shot cushion from the away leg.

Littlewood stormed into a 15-1 lead after only nine ends and went on to win 30-7. Clayden's rink trailed 15-12 after 11 ends but surged through to lead 23-15 with five ends to play, eventually winning 29-20.

New Earswick were disappointed as they were pipped 87-85 by Hornsea.

Jim Bone's side scored two sixes in their home game, on the fourth and 16th end, the second one taking them to 23-17 ahead, which proved to be enough to see them home 27-24.

Bob Edwards' rink, meanwhile, came from 10-6 down to win 22-13.

Bob Howland's away team looked good, leading 19-18 with two ends to play, but they slipped to a 22-18 defeat.

Barry Johnson's team got back into their game with a six on the 17th end but six dropped shots over the last three ends put paid to their challenge.

York 'B' are anchored at the bottom of the league after losing 104-55 to Featherstone losing all four rinks.

Featherstone only led 37-30 at the half-way stage but stepped up a gear to show that they are genuine title challengers to York 'A', scoring 68 shots to only 25 against in the second half.

York's Ladies beat North Cave 91-61 in the Yorkshire Ladies League but only picked up six out of the ten points at stake as they lost both away rinks by only one shot.

Sheila Turpin's rink led 18-14 with two ends to play but then dropped a six and could only pick up a single on the last end to lose 20-19.

Carol Instone's quartet were 9-0 down after six ends before a winning run of six ends bringing them 15 shots put them in the driving seat.

But then the home side hit back and the fours went into the last end at 17-17, a single yielding the points to the home side.

Both Thanet Road rinks were in control with Maureen Thomas pulling away from 15-10 after 15 ends to win 31-11 and Melanie Brooke easing home 25-12 after being 15-12 up after 15 ends.

New Earswick's game against Ryedale was cancelled after the Norton side couldn't raise a team. A new date has yet to be arranged.
