HO, Ho Ho. 'Tis the season to be jolly, so we're closing your home coz we're short of lolly.

I totally support David Alexander in his campaign to stop the closure of Acomb Gables (December 13).

My husband spent the last eight years of his life in the Gables. He was so loved and cared for by the wonderful staff they became like a second family to him.

They also helped me overcome the terrible guilt I felt for having to let my husband go into care because I could no longer physically or mentally nurse him at home. He needed special nursing and they provided it. They were truly special people.

Why should these elderly people be stripped of a loving, caring environment they now regard as home? They are elderly, ill and confused - don't add to their confusion by moving them. They are still human, they do have feelings.
