OH no they didn't - see the rest of the show.
Disappointed theatregoers missed the second half of York Theatre Royal's panto, The Lad Aladdin, last night when the safety curtain failed to go up after the interval.
Cries of "Open Sesame" from the audience failed to raise the curtain, and apologetic dame Berwick Kaler, below, eventually had to send people home.
But he hinted that another performance might be staged at a later date, and theatre spokesman Duncan Clarke said today there was a "strong possibility" that the second half would be staged on Saturday, December 31. But he stressed: "This is subject to confirmation."
He said the mechanism around the safety curtain's motor broke, and the damage meant that the curtain could not be hand-winched up.
