CITY of York Ladies Hockey Club suffered a third consecutive North League defeat, losing 2-1 in their re-arranged game at Deeside Ramblers who took an early lead from a penalty corner.
Although Sally Sleightholme soon scrambled an equaliser, York again failed to turn pressure into goals and conceded the winner five minutes from time when Deeside scored with a well-taken shot into the top corner of the net.
There are no men or women's Yorkshire League games over the Christmas weekend. However, York Ladies have a re-arranged Yorkshire League fixture on January 7. Otherwise, the women's North League and Yorkshire Leagues fixtures resume on January 14.
Rotherham HC's Mary Flint, for many years the women's North League's main organiser, died last week.
Greg Sykes and Gawaine Hogg were on target as City of York men's IV team came from behind to win 2-1 at Huddersfield in Yorkshire League division three.
City of York Under-10 girls' team remain top in the Yorkshire Youth League.
The 'A' team swept all before them on a hard, but true surface at Huntington School.
Goals by Fern Grimbley and Rebecca Turnbull saw off LA Carnegie 2-0 in the opening game.
Grimbley then weighed in with a hat-tick as Harrogate were demolished 5-0. Rachel Hall and Hannah Yoward got the other goals.
Against Ben Rhydding it was Rebecca Turnbull's turn to grabs a treble with Hall, Grimbley and Yoward scoring one each.
The 'A' team's programme was completed with a 5-0 victory against the younger City of York 'B' side. Hall (2), Grimbley, Yoward and Turnbull were the scorers.
The 'B' team drew 1-1 with Ben Rhydding, Emily Watson netting a late equaliser for York.
They then drew 0-0 with LA Carnegie, beat Harrogate 1-0 with a goal from Helen Megone to maintain their 'A' league status.
City of York 'C' featured in the 'B' league but lost 1-0 to both Slazengers and Driffield and drew 0-0 with Leeds.
