THE first shock in the York FA Sunday Morning Senior Cup came two days before the second round even kicked off.

Acomb SC withdrew from the cup and the John Smith's Sunday Morning League thus allowing Hounds a bye for the second successive round.

Severus SC edged out Nestl Volunteers 2-1 after extra time in a tight tussle at New Lane. The deadlock was broken early in the second half when Lee Bond's penalty put Volunteers ahead but Severus levelled through Lee Jackson and Dave Watson netted the extra-time winner.

Wigginton Grasshoppers lost 3-1 to an impressive Hemingbrough outfit who led at half-time through Stuart Winter. Kevin Gaynor added two more before Grasshoppers netted their consolation.

Four-goal Danny Gray led the way as Acomb WMC thrashed Bishopthorpe United 9-0. Neil Ducey (2), Mike Cooper (2) and Karl Young also scored. Nestl Flag needed Kevin Martin's last-minute penalty to beat Shoulder of Mutton 1-0.

Ainsty Panthers were always in control when beating Hambleton 4-2 winners with a Chris Kamara hat-trick and a goal from Tosh Reed. Derwent United's star man, Simon Collins, also scored a hat-trick as his side defeated Pocklington 6-2.

Goalkeeper Gabriel Antal was the hero as Thomas's Hotel knocked out last year's York FA Sunday Morning Junior Cup finalists Skelton in this year's second round.

It was 3-3 when Skelton were awarded a penalty but the spot-kick was saved by Antal and Thomas's went on to win with a 20-yard drive from Henry Smith.

The other Thomas's goals came from Steven Scott (2) and an own goal, while Shaun Robinson, Mark Pipe and James Robinson netted for Skelton.

There was a goalathon as Wanderers defeated Rumours 10-7 after extra-time with Garry Newton (4) and Darren Brandon (3) leading the way.

Wilberfoss fell behind to Acorn FC before fighting back to win 4-1 with goals from Olly Newby (2), Paul Humpleby and Danny Johns.

Raskelf Rovers went ahead at Inland Revenue with a solo goal by Andy Metcalfe. Sam Gregory added a second and a brilliant header from Jamie Metcalfe made it 3-0.

Revenue fought back with goals from Ross Dixon and David Lund after good play by Andy Herrington but Raskelf held out.
