Haxby Lions gained their first win of the York John Smith's Sunday Football League division two season in a nine-goal thriller with Burnholme.

Lions led 4-3 at half-time and netted two more after the break. Burnholme's consolations came from Hud-son, Mitchell and Bickerdyke.

With many clubs in local FA Cup action, the only other game in this division saw Cueball Fulford go joint-top after a 5-2 win over York Nomads.

The majority of the action came in the second half, as Cueball turned the screw with goals from Joe Smart (2), Dave Chapman, Tom Leatherbarrow and Darren Molloy. Nomads' replies both came from Hildon.

Beeswing lead the way in division three after a 6-2 thumping of Barlby. It was 2-2 at the break but the Bees stung with double strikes from Turbine and Burton. Clancey and Norman had got their first-half goals with Hanson and Hamblin replying.

Copmanthorpe drew 2-2 with Acomb Celtic in a second-versus-third clash. James Gilbertson opened the scoring for Cop, whose other goal was a Del Neaves penalty. Neil Rankeillor and Lee Davidson found the net in reply.

Selby Griffin wiped aside Cueball Fulford Reserves 6-0 in division four with goals from Farad (2), Cooper, Walton, Harrop and Lindley, while Albion Vaults notched a fine 5-3 win at Carlton Tavern thanks to strikes from Chris Charlesworth (2), Lee Ward, Andy White and an own goal. Wayne Gibson and substitutes Dave Tomlinson and Adam Craske replied.

Cawood's good form in division five continued with an 8-0 thrashing of Forest courtesy of a Knapton hat-trick and hits from Atton, Knowles, Hepworth, Blundell and McLoughlin.

Poppleton Road WMC made FC Barlby sweat in a 5-5 thriller. Barlby led 3-1 at the break but Pop came back through Chris Murcutt (2), Andy Day, Jim Clark and Mick Rollinson. Barlby's blushes were spared by a Rob Baker hat-trick and Sean Smith and Steve Davis goals.

New Earswick strolled to a 4-1 win over Firkin 103 with Lindsey (3) and Cammidge scoring, Gavin Tate replying.
