FEW artist's impressions make such an impression as that of York's Christmas skating rink.
Perhaps the designer was influenced by the new multi-colour Minster; or perhaps he had something strong on ice while he was drawing it. But the resulting vision is quite something.
Under a psychedelic sky, families skate around a Christmas tree-festooned rink. Behind them, an angelic glow emits from Clifford's Tower, which sits atop a grassy mound sprinkled with icing sugar.
We are delighted the rink is coming back. But we fear the real picture will include several children crying from ice-related injuries while frost-bitten parents wish they were in a Wetherspoon's.
