IN response to the letter "End live exports" (October 28), I would like to say that C Tweddle talks a lot of twaddle.

At this time of year lambs do not "sleep safely with their mothers at night", as they will have been weaned from their mothers about four months ago.

Hauliers do not "work under cover of darkness" as stated. Once the lambs are picked up from various farms and markets they will be taken to their destination as quickly as possible.

If this entails working through the night then this may be the best option.

This is not the same as working under cover as suggested.

Hauliers' wagons have divisions to make small pens which are well lit and have good ventilation.

These are regularly checked by trading standards to ensure the safe and comfortable movement of livestock. These lambs will not be "severely distressed".

It would be of no benefit to anyone for these lambs to be transported in the manner suggested by C Tweddle.
