JUST as the Roman empire is about to become trendy again, with the start of an epic drama on BBC2 tonight, its York museum is made homeless.
For 20 years the founders of this city have played second fiddle to the Johnny-come-lately Vikings. But the tireless efforts of Keith Mulhearn and a small band of fellow enthusiasts have raised York's Roman profile through guided walks, festivals and the Eboracum Legion Bathhouse Museum, under the Roman Bath pub. Now pub and museum have parted company. Assorted sandals, togas and armour are locked up in a Huntington garage. This is a great shame. Surely there is an entrepreneur who can find a new home for our bit of Rome.
