I TOTALLY disagree with your readers letter from Greer Parker (October 31).
Can you imagine Blackpool illuminations only in white lights?
Christmas is about religion and for children it is a magic world to see lights depicting things like the manger, donkeys and angels. Also Santa's reindeers, stars, elves, chimneys, presents and Christmas trees.
What does York have? Boring old strings of silver lights saying Micklegate etc. A few trees and a few stars. No wonder Leeds is a favourite place to visit. There are many houses in York with more lights on the house.
For next year, the council and local businesses could get together and involve children and disability groups to design a theme, or themes, and be sponsored to see their designs being made and put on display.
The whole area, including Rougier Street, Micklegate, Lendal, Skeldergate Bridge, Goodramgate, Stonegate and Piccadilly, should be covered.
So come on York, let's make this a magical city.
