POCKLINGTON and Scarborough provided a cracking contest at the seaside where the home side edged a 25-19 Yorkshire Two victory.

Scarborough made the most of their chances with some slick first half counter-attacks, then just held on as Pocklington piled on the pressure in the second period.

Pocklington opened the scoring with an eighth-minute penalty before Scarborough had an interception try ruled out for a forward pass.

They held on to passion and a neat chip over the top brought a converted touchdown at the side of the posts.

Pocklington replied with some good attacking which ended with centre Guy Hope cutting through in midfield for Henry Mitchell to convert.

But Scarborough's two New Zealanders were stamping their authority on the game with stand-off Marcus Edwards going on to score 20 points and Maori flanker Junior Tupai creating two long range tries as the home side moved in to a 19-10 lead.

The pair also distinguished themselves in defence as they chased back to make a joint try-saving tackle when Pocklington broke clear just before the interval.

Pocklington spent most of the second half on the attack, with their smaller pack matching Scarborough's heavyweight eight up front, and they were twice held up on the Scarborough line.

But although both sides kept trying to run the ball they were restricted to two penalties each by Scarborough's Edwards and Pocklington's Mitchell.

The result remained in the balance right to the end and Scarborough just had enough to take the points.
