I THINK most right-thinking people would agree that recycling of the earth's resources must happen.
At the rate the population of this world is using up its minerals, metals, oil and gas, everything will have run out long before the sun burns itself out.
As a family of four, we can live with the once-a-fortnight rubbish collection and the green bin collection saves me from travelling to Foss Islands on a regular basis because our gardens generate lots of the green stuff.
If the administration of the moment, the Liberal Democrats, did not bite the bullet and introduce the measures of recycling and cutting down on landfill, then the Labour or Conservatives would have had to do it.
So the sniping, mainly from Labour councillors, is getting really boring - after all, it is a Labour Government initiative.
The pictures in the Press of sad-looking people standing next to overflowing bins I think are pathetic, highlighting the fact that these measures are going to educate a lot of people and a bit might rub off on to manufacturers in the quest to cut down on packaging.
