I ATTENDED the meeting about changing the Heslington Road Number Four bus route. I had a word with Mr Edwards, of First, about the change of the bus route.
He said he had to look after the students as they would be making a lot of money from them as they were a commercial company.
I said what about public transport? He said there was no such thing as public transport as that stopped when Mrs Thatcher was in power.
I wanted to make several points:
Why do we need the articulated buses when we could use double deckers which would hold the same number of passengers on the same route? We have had to have the roads altered on Tadcaster Road and new traffic lights in Acomb. The stop on Pulleyn Drive has been altered three times - what a waste of money.
The students who travel on this bus only go as far as Clifford Street. They are on the bus for only about 15 minutes. I know there will be a lot of them but what happens when the bus goes through town and into Acomb? There will not be hundreds of passengers waiting at these bus stops.
We do need a bus to go down Heslington Road as there is a lot of homes and student accommodation along Heslington Road. With your help we could keep our buses.
Mrs D Johnson,
Lingfield Crescent,
Tadcaster Road,
York.
