The new-look York Schoolboys' Under-12s footballers had a magnificent start to their league season despite having seven debutants for the opening clash with academy-packed Sheffield.

Seven of last year's wonder U11 team have been gone to by professional clubs, but the new faces shone in the 3-3 draw after trailing 2-0 to a side boosted by Sheffield United and Wednesday academy starlets.

Luke Quantock rounded two players and drilled his shot into the bottom corner and Charlie Binns guided in Jacob McCormick's shot to draw level.

With minutes remaining, Sheffield struck against the run of play and looked destined for the win but York kept their composure and a perfectly executed free-kick by debutant Jack Wickham was headed in by skipper McCormick.

Man of the match Jordan Holt - another first-timer - made a goal-line clearance in an outstanding display at left back, while Alex Dale and Matt Yeoman also starred.

Goalkeeper Tom Young kept York Schoolboys' U13s in the game with two first-rate saves in their 2-1 defeat of Sheffield.

He was deceived by a cross-cum-shot for the first but he made up for it with two late stops, including one that was pushed on to the crossbar to earn York the points.

A good passing move from midfield saw York equalise as James Edmond coolly rounded the 'keeper and slotted home. He later pulled off a carbon-copy save to secure the win.

Will Pepper and Tom Richardson were also outstanding in the York defence.

A George Riley wonder strike gave York U14s a hard-earned win over Leeds after a physical battle.

A strong defensive display marshalled by Ryan O'Reilly and Callum Andrew countered the determined Leeds attack and secured an impressive win.

York U15s matched Leeds stride for stride in a gritty friendly that ended 2-2.

Leeds responded to York's intentions by taking the lead with a move that looked offside but York countered with a classy goal after James Newnham shared a one-two with Christian Derrick and rounded the 'keeper at pace.

Leeds made the most of some sloppy defending to take the lead again before another reshuffle got York back into the game when an intelligent short corner was driven home from outside the box by Matt Horner after taking a deflection. Centre-back Andy Green was York's man of the match after a commanding performance.

The U15s are without a match this weekend but have a league clash with Sheffield at Railway Institute on October 29. Those selected will be contacted by Ken Tuite or Paul Walker.
