ONCE again the actions of our council leave me angry and irritated. We are told there is a £10 million shortfall to come and that we must look at ways of saving money.

Here are a few suggestions.

1 The "Your Ward" propaganda I recently received cost £13,000 across the city this month alone. Scrap it. I am not sure how many of these we get a year but even quarterly that would save £52,000.

2 Within the same leaflet was information about what a great service our council is providing us in charging an arm and a leg to park in our city. The cost of this information is nearly £3,000.

3 The same leaflet contains requests on how our ward should spend the £48,000 we have been granted. Looking at ours I would say about half of this money will be useful and will help those who need help. The other stuff seems to me to be spending for the sake of it. Ours includes a grant of £200 to move a road sign as the original has been installed by the council on the wrong side of the road. I don't know how many wards there are but say there are ten then half of that saving would be £240,000.

I could go on, but at this rate the council elections will be here before I finish. Just remember when you vote that Coun Merrett and his chums were just as bad.
