ONCE again the credibility of City of York Council has been brought into doubt. Not only has the council recently introduced controversial car parking charges and waste collection policies, one of its own councillors decided to add to the crisis and bring the council into disrepute.

I refer to the article regarding Councillor Reid's daughter's wedding transport arrangements (October 15).

That Coun Reid thought her daughter's wedding was an appropriate occasion to test out a new traffic light system is beyond belief. Once again a person in a position of trust has abused her position for personal gratification with absolutely no thought for the consequences.

If a convoy of vehicles is required to carry out a test don't you think that the vehicles it is designed for should be used, ie the emergency services? At least then it would be possible to get some feedback from the people who are to use it, allowing for any modifications.

I suppose the council taxpayers of York will sleep safer in their beds knowing that Coun Reid's daughter got to the church on time.

On a more serious note, such actions ask a serious question about the judgement of Coun Reid. Is she fit to hold office or should she do the honourable thing and resign?

Individuals in positions of public authority should remember they have to be whiter than white if they are not to compromise their position.

Mr C Pickering,

Rowntree Wharf,

York.
