York City captain Mark Hotte is expected to be sidelined for two months after fracturing his shoulder during Saturday's 2-1 victory over Canvey Island.

Hotte was making his first appearance for eight matches after regaining his place from James Dudgeon but his afternoon ended prematurely when he collided with Canvey midfielder Mario Noto on 33 minutes.

The Minstermen also lost midfield anchor man Emmanuel Panther early in the second half with an ankle problem although his injury is not expected to be as serious.

City boss Billy McEwan welcomed Saturday's result that lifted City into second place in the Conference table but added that he was left angry with the performance.

The home team were fortunate winners when Canvey 'keeper Richard McKinney dropped a tame Clayton Donaldson cross on 89 minutes and Andy Bishop struck to score his seventh goal of the season.

Earlier the Minstermen had taken a 78th-minute lead when Canvey substitute Stuart Bimson deflected Mark Convery's free-kick past the hapless McKinney only for Hallett to level for the visitors five minutes later.

McEwan said afterwards: "The result was pleasing but the performance wasn't. I don't want to play horrible football like that and win games.

"That might sound like I'm off my head but, if you play well you win games. We got three points but that's not the be all and end all at York City.

"I am trying to build a proper football club and we will not get away with playing like that and winning games too many times. I was angry after the game because we need more effort in some areas of the pitch and the players have been told that in no uncertain terms."

City strikers Donaldson and Bishop have both been called up for the provisional England National Game XI squad.

Both players will attend one-day trials next week for the non-League under-23 side that will play an international match in Belgium.

McEwan said: "It's nice for the players, the club and the team and I am sure they will be the first to say thanks to their team-mates for the recognition."

The Minstermen have declined an offer from Sky to switch their Boxing Day home clash with neighbours Scarborough to Friday, December 23.

York City head of youth development Ian Kerr saw his new charges go down 3-0 to his former club Hartlepool on Saturday.

David Foley, who has played League One football for the first team, scored twice for the visitors.

Striker Alex Rhodes lifted City's best chance over the bar from seven yards.
