I READ with great interest your article regarding the proposed taxi rank to be located on Micklegate. As a recent graduate in two European languages, I have been lucky enough to study in Munich, Madrid and Alicante.

Each time I return to York I am frustrated by the lack of easily accessible public transport within the city centre.

This business venture would not only support the night time economy, but also York's tourists who can frequently be found wandering the city at all times of the day looking for transportation back to their hotel.

Another point I would like to discuss is the noise and traffic concerns the council and police have raised. As far as I can see, this business would not generate any more noise or traffic than the status quo.

A taxi firm serves the customers who currently use taxis within York. Does the council not understand that people will already need to be picked up from this area by the current firms in York?

The only difference with this scheme would be that with additional support we may finally be able to get a taxi when we want, not 45 minutes too late.
