FIVE riders from the York area are taking on the challenge of one the eventing world's last major home-based internationals this season.
They are in action at the Weston Park International three-day event in Shropshire which started today.
Alne-based international Janine Kemp and Heidi Simmons, from York, will both be competing in the top CCI section.
Kemp is riding the 14-year-old chestnut mare Glen Clova's Angel, who has come back into competition after a shortlived retirement.
Simmons is on eight-year-old bay By A Whisker for Eventers International, a business run by former Olympic event rider Tiny Clapham.
Harrogate's Nicola Hazlett will ride three-day debutante Fairground Attraction II in the step just below CCI while York-based duo Nicola Rooke and James Somerville have both been selected to ride for the Northern team in the Junior Regional Novice Championship final.
Rooke, who was also chosen for the team last year, will ride Mademist Janie. Somerville's partner is Orange Kipper.
