CONFERENCE golden boot contender Charlie McDonald is only rated 50-50 for Gravesend and Northfleet's home match against York City.

But should the six-goal former Charlton Athletic striker fail to recover from an ankle problem then a powerful, exciting 17-year-old prospect, currently on the south London Premiership club's books, could fill his boots.

Onome Sodje has signed a one-year loan deal with Fleet and was the star man after replacing Jimmy Jackson during the first half of the Kent club's 1-1 draw at high-flying Accrington Stanley.

The teenage forward, who netted 14 times in 19 FA Premier Academy matches last season and has previously been loaned out to Welling United, went on to score mid-table Gravesend's equaliser.

He has only started one Conference game and was sent off for a rash challenge against Exeter City but he is likely to start against the Minstermen if either McDonald or fellow striker Andy Drury, who is nursing a groin injury, are unavailable.

Another former Charlton striker Kim Grant is also on standby.

Left-winger Jackson, who broke the club appearance record with a 501st game before hobbling off with a hamstring problem at Accrington, is expected to be passed fit but defender Graham Porter and club captain Steve McKinn are still sidelined.

Gravesend also recently received good news regarding their move to a new stadium.

The council have revealed that plans are now afoot to relocate the club from Stonebridge Road, which has been the club's home since 1946.

Overtures from Coca-Cola League One outfit Gillingham to move into the borough have also now been scuppered.
