Evans Property Group, one of the joint venture partners in the £150 million Hungate regeneration scheme in York, has been voted Property Company of the Year for Yorkshire and the North East in the inaugural Estates Gazette awards.

The accolade for the privately-owned property investment and development company, whose work stretches from Scotland to the south, follows another year of record financial performance, in which pre-tax profits exceeded £20 million for the first time.

John Bell, managing director, said: "We see the award as the icing on the cake and find it particularly gratifying because it was decided upon by a vote of our peers throughout the property industry."

The company, which is involved in major office, residential and leisure schemes, including Hungate, York Business Park, and developments in Piccadilly and Stonebow, has seen its net asset value grow by 250 per cent over the past five years to almost £300 million.

The Hungate development, which received the green light from Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott, is a joint venture with Crosby Homes (Yorkshire) Ltd and Land Securities Group plc.
