NOW the crocodile tears are starting to flow over Arc Light's future.

Consultation didn't happen because, before the democratic process could reach the point where consultation could begin, Coun Ken King prevented it taking place by whipping up anxieties and concerns, a job he did so effectively he got the support of the British National Party.

Well, he's feathered his political nest now so he can move on.

Coun David Scott is pleading that "the opportunity to improve Arc Light's facilities must not be lost" (October 1), having just spent months working for completely the opposite objective.

The whole sorry spectacle over this summer has been the direct result of these men and others effectively preventing consultation ever happening in order to serve their own perceived political advantage. Instead of pretending that consultation had been denied the residents of York it would have been better if these defenders of the homeless had worked with the council to allow consultation to happen.

The hypocrisy of their new-found concern is as odious as it is predictable.

Coun Christian Vassie,

Blake Court,

Wheldrake,

York.
