I MUST take issue with the totally misleading report regarding the new taxi rank in Micklegate (October 1).
Mr Donnor would be unable "to open a new taxi rank" because he is a private hire operator. No one can open a taxi rank at will, this is a part of the highway which has to be adopted by the local authority, and is then only allowed by law to be used by hackney carriages. Private hire vehicles are not allowed to rank up by law, substantiated by the Eastbourne Judgement.
Perhaps if the planning application had been for a private hire booking office he may have been successful.
