I AM appalled about the rubbish, broken glass and sharp pieces of crockery littering Victoria Park (Mum discovers Ouse drugs den, September 28).

We too discovered empty syringes lying on the river bank at Victoria Park. I contacted Environmental Health on September 6 and complained. They said that they would send someone to tidy and pick up the rubbish but to date I have seen no improvement. I also note that broken bottles have appeared over the past weekend and I spend my time while walking my dogs picking up broken glass and putting it in the bin.

In the summer, the council arranged for a large area of Victoria park to be fenced off for football pitches and the contactors skimmed the top of the land, taking off the grass. It was not levelled, drained, reseeded - nothing!

At the end of August, they removed the fences and the land was left covered in holes, broken pieces of crockery, glass and so on. No doubt it used to be a land-fill site. They expect children to pay football on this which is nothing but a hazard. I am absolutely disgusted with City of York Council.
