York City's revival attracted hundreds of genuine fans back to KitKat Crescent on Saturday. Unfortunately, a handful of thugs came along too.
The attack on two Exeter fans was shocking and inexcusable. City are absolutely right to condemn this behaviour and seek to ban those found responsible.
It is a great shame that these hooligans detracted from what was otherwise a tremendous afternoon's sport. More than 3,500 supporters, the highest gate for some time, watched a cracking game in carnival mood.
That makes it all the more imperative that the yob element is weeded out now so York City's fantastic family atmosphere continues to flourish.
