POCKLINGTON cut loose at Knottingley, scoring six top-quality tries to win impressively by 35-3.

Pocklington, who had to defend a lot in the first quarter as Knottingley played pick-and-drive tactics, were happy to be only three points down, Knottingley kicking a 12th-minute penalty.

But Pocklington then blew the home side away with four spectacular tries in the space of a mere nine minutes.

From deep inside their own half the Pocklington backs broke left, and right wing Sam Butcher supported on his opposite flank to score in the left corner.

A quick penalty then saw fullback Charlie Allen and fly-half Sandy Mitchell both sell deft dummies for the latter to touch down.

Straight from the kick-off Pocklington pinned Knottingley in the bottom corner before big passes left sent Allen flying over.

Knottingley were chasing shadows as Mitchell and centre Guy Hope continued to prompt and probe, before Allen and Butcher supplied the pace and cutting-edge out wide. More quality handling from their own half ended with scrum-half Graham Pickering darting over, Mitchell converting.

Pocklington started the second half in similar vein as Hope ran a penalty on his own 22 before Butcher and Allen combined for the fullback to score.

The roles were then reversed in another 50-yard attack, this time Allan sending Butcher sprinting clear for his second try.

Knottingley's full back was dismissed for a dangerous tackle. Mitchell kicked the penalty.
