FORMER Scarborough boss Ian Kerr is York City's new head of youth development.

Kerr has joined the Minstermen from Hartlepool United where he has been overseeing their youth development scheme for the past three years.

Before that, he was youth team coach at Scarborough from 1998 to 2002 before a short spell as first team manager at the McCain Stadium.

Kerr has 14 years experience in youth development and is a UEFA A qualified coach and has achieved FA coach educator level 1 and level 2 status.

Kerr said: "I'm very excited about my new role at York City. At Hartlepool I found myself working more and more in an administrative capacity, so I'm looking forward to getting back onto the field and into a hands-on coaching role.

"Billy McEwan and Colin Walker are individuals I admire and I'm delighted to have the opportunity to work with them.

"I feel it is a club with a direction and I want to be part of that driving force which takes York City back to where it belongs - the Football League."

Under Kerr Scarborough won the Merit Division of the Football League Division 1 in 1999-2000 while he steered Hartlepool's youngsters to the North East Youth Alliance title in 2002-03, finishing runners-up two season later.

City's youth development director, Steve Beck said: "He has a great track record and I'm sure he will be a real attribute to the club."
