THE Saturday open at the Willows fishery near York drew a respectable entry of 35 who enjoyed some good sport on Goldrush Lake.

Trevor Rymer (Ultimate Henglesport) scored an easy win from peg 35. Fishing pole into open water, Rymer first bagged up on ide, taking about 50lb on caster and worm, before turning his attentions to the carp lurking beneath.

Switching to cat meat fished at full depth, he topped up his already bulging net to a match-winning 88lb. Well adrift was Tony Hewson (Leeds Angling Centre), who used meat at peg 52 for a 68lb 6oz net of carp to 5lb.

Others: Andy Rymer 52-4-0, Dennis Gelderd 51-4-0, Stuart Frankland 42-10-0 and Stan Jeffries 42-10-0.

Hewson bettered his runners-up spot at the Tuesday evening open at the same pool with victory from peg 34.

Targeting clear water, Hewson enjoyed a frenetic three hours with fish to 5lb coming to his meat offerings. His total of 83lb would have graced the winner's podium in many five-hour contests and was more than enough for the rest.

Dave Pollitt had the best of those trailing in Hewson's wake with a 55lb 8oz net of carp on cat meat from peg 33.

The Sunday open at Lang-with Lakes saw 28 anglers tackle Kevin's Lake and it was York-based venue regular Roger Holmes who took the honours from peg four.

Offering pellet tight to the island, he bagged 69lb 4oz of small carp and tench to finish just ahead of Geoff Duggan, who opted for a chopped worm and caster attack at peg two where he finished with a similar net of 62lb 4oz.

Others: Tim Bell 58-4-0, Norman Dixon 56-8-0, Dean Smith 50-2-0 and Paul Stead 45-0-0.
