POWERHOUSE prop Craig Forsyth is considering staving off retirement to blast his way through another season.

The veteran York City Knights forward turns 35 later this year but reckons he has got another campaign in him to make up for missing much of this season through injury.

Forsyth played only two games before July but after returning to fitness has been an ever-present from July onwards - since when the Knights have gone seven games unbeaten on their triumphant march to the LHF National League Two title.

The former Heworth amateur, who was thought to be hanging up his boots, now says he is "70 per cent sure" he will be up for a season back in National League One, though no talks have yet begun.

"I'm a bit undecided really, but with missing most of this season with niggling injuries I might do another one," said Forsyth, who played in NL1 for Doncaster before joining the Knights in 2003 for a third spell with his home-town club after two stints with York Wasps.

"I would rather stay with York - I don't want to do the travelling thing, and it's great at York. I enjoy it here and I don't think you could get better coaching.

"I've enjoyed the two-and-a-bit years I've been with the Knights. It's been a bit frustrating with injuries this year but since I got over them it's been great.

"And to win the league with two games left in an 18-game season is brilliant - though there are still four points to win."

He added: "I feel I've done all right and Mick Cook (head coach) has been pleased, which is the main thing. I earned a shirt and I've kept it and that's quite pleasing."

Notwithstanding those performances, Forsyth conceded he may have to do the embarrassing end-of-season forfeit for players who finish the campaign try-less.

It has long been known that team-mate Lee Paterson is facing the forfeit - a naked lap of the pitch at training - and now that Forsyth has returned to regular action, he too is eligible unless he gets over the whitewash against Workington a week on Sunday or at Sheffield the following Friday.

"There are still two games left and the fat lady isn't singing yet," he joked. "But I wouldn't mind running alongside Patto. Put it this way, there won't be a lot to choose between us."
