LAST Saturday I left the Yorkshire Air Museum site just before the air show display ended. Because I knew traffic would be bad I tuned my car radio to Radio York expecting to get up-to-date information on the traffic situation, and if there were any blockages I might be able to avoid.

However, soon after I joined the A64 eastbound at Grimston Bar I came to a complete standstill and it took about 30 minutes to get to the Hopgrove roundabout. All this time the radio had been burbling out football and rugby results etc.

No traffic information was broadcast between about 4.40 and 5.20 when I got home. Local radio is supposed to be a public service but, as far as Radio York is concerned, if you are not interested in balls (round or oval) you are a non-person.

To crown it all when I got home BBC Look North at about 5.40 consisted entirely of Harry Gration going on and on about national and local sport. Nothing else was mentioned despite the fact the Yorkshire Air Show was probably attended by far more people than attend football matches.
