FORMER York City Knights hero Danny Brough is looking to emulate his old club on Saturday and secure some long-awaited silverware.

But while the Knights' National League Two title triumph was a step towards sought after Super League status, Brough's attempts at success will be on the biggest stage in club rugby as his Hull team go to Cardiff's sell-out Millennium Stadium to face Leeds Rhinos in the Powergen Challenge Cup final.

Brough, who smashed goal-kicking records galore during his 18 months at York before moving to the KC Stadium at the end of last season, has become something of a regular in the Hull team and played his full part in the side that shocked St Helens in the Cup semi-final.

"I never thought I would be looking forward to a Challenge Cup final," he told the Evening Press. "We got to the quarter-finals with York last year and now it's the final. I didn't expect to play half as many games as I have done.

"It's the proudest moment of my career and hopefully I'll be involved."

Hull boss John Kear is, of course, assisted by Richard Agar, the coach who took the Knights to the last eight last season as well as the semi-finals of the Arriva Trains Cup and the NL2 Grand Final. They have not yet named their team for Saturday's showdown, but Brough said: "I'm hoping to play.

"I think I've got a good chance. My goal-kicking has been good - I've missed just two out of 15 - and I've been playing quite well."

The 22-year-old half-back turned hooker is "really enjoying it at Hull" and believes the club have a grand future, and should not be ruled out of making the Super League Grand Final.

"We've got a chance this year," he said. "We're fourth and we've got a real opportunity.

"I think Hull are one of the 'big four' now. We have to maintain that and hopefully get a few trophies.

"There are a lot of quality senior players and they're a good set of lads. I'd like to stay here as long as possible - it's a good set-up."

Brough also took time out to congratulate his old mates at Huntington Stadium following their title triumph at Hunslet on Sunday.

"I was really glad for them," he said of their promotion.

"We should have achieved it last year but they've done it now. Good luck to the lads and to the club."
