WETHERBY Castlegarth are celebrating their centenary in style.

Along with Civil Service, they have sealed promotion places from division two of the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League.

Castlegarth, favourites to go up as champions, made it 12 wins out of 12 by beating Poppleton 56-52 with Jamie and Sue Perkins, a former Civil Service player, top scoring to edge the points. Civil Service must beat Castlegarth tonight to stand any chance of finishing top.

Dunnington moved away from the relegation area by beating Riccall despite the best efforts of the unbeaten Mark Harris and Michelle Hall.

Dunnington head the pack in division one behind leaders York and Poppleton after their defeat of Wigginton who were only able to field two regular players. Paul Birch and Katy Milne, Dunnington's new pairing this year, were top scorers.

Fulford beat their second string to overtake them for the first time this year on games difference.

Govind Baker and Eleanor Crooks were the winning duo for Fulford at Copmanthorpe and take over at the top of division three.

Bubwith moved to safety with a hard fought win against Sherburn, and Wheldrake overcame Civil Service. Jonathan Sharp and Julie Carslake's 26 games for Sherburn against relegation threatened York means re-arranged end-of-season matches will hold the key to final places.

Wigginton II top division five after wins against Dunnington and their own third team with family connections in both teams. James Langley and Sue Espiner defeated father Stuart and Pauline Wregglesworth with Simon Drake and daughter Karen Espiner being outscored by her mother. Heworth dropped into second place with a draw against Cawood. The top two contenders meet tomorrow night with Wigginton hoping to avenge their 55-53 defeat earlier in the season.

Steve Falkingham and Jill Marsden led Wistow to a much needed win against Dunnington. Howard and Alison Thompson spearheaded Tollerton's victory against Cawood.

Fulford could have a large champagne bill as four of their teams are in title places. Their fourth team went top of division six after beating Cliffe.

Wilberfoss took a step closer to promotion in division seven with a win at Riccall. Sutton on Derwent clung onto their hopes with a good win at Tadcaster.

Nick Holbeck and Sue Jackson ensured Dunnington have sealed a promotion place in division eight to end Escrick's hopes.

Stillington's Jonathan Lister and Betty Bainton halted Stamford Bridge in their promotion tracks in division nine but Bridge bounced back to defeat rivals Sheriff Hutton.
