HOW many times have we heard the argument: "If you have done nothing wrong you have nothing to fear", levelled at those who express concern as the Government responds to the terrorist threat with ever more erosion of our hard- won civil liberties?

We now have the saddest of all refutations of this argument, because being innocent is no longer a protection from seven bullets to the head. Perhaps we do have something to fear after all.
